JOB DESCRIPTION:

Exciting opening at a $1.5 billion company, for a Chemical Sales Rep. in the Indianapolis, IN area.  The right candidate must have sold  chemicals to manufacturing situations in anything that is considered a consumable and sold on a repeat basis;  chemical raw materials, cleaners, MRO’s, lubricants, specialty chemicals, janitorial supplies or gases.  This relationship sale is predicated on value added problem solving behavior where you service the customers and meet the needs of the manufacturing situation.  This person will visit the customers regularly and provide a type of technical service or have the Engineering staff follow up with answers to technical changes in their processes.  They will call on metal fabricators, forging, stamping operations where they use a variety of specialty lubricants. 60% account maintenance and 40% new business development.

  • This candidate must exhibit drive and have the ability to talk with all levels of manufacturing during the sale.  Able to make presentations and answer questions regarding the products involved.
  • Follow up with necessary correspondence to management and customers to complete the sale.
  • Able to maintain the current accounts and develop new business

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A technical degree, BS ME, IE, ChE, Chemistry or Science is preferred but any BS level degree will do with 3-5 years of hands on experience selling products to manufacturing and be able to sell to the technical management and avoid purchasing.  The candidate must have the ability to ask the right questions, sell products on the benefits and enhancements to the process which will enable the customer to increase output and reduce manufacturing time.  My client will not look at job-hoppers or too many job changes in their career.

Currently there are 2 reps. in the surrounding area, but need this person to cover the Toledo area and south. They are rapidly expanding and need to have this candidate concentrate on maintaining the current customer base and develop new business in and around the Toledo area. Cold calls will be required but there are some established accounts and will receive commissions on maintaining existing accounts. Product training and selling techniques will be given on a routine basis at headquarters in Chicago. Travel is 40-50% in the region will be done by car and overnight travel will be rare. Tracking of calls and customer contact is done through their sales force.com software. Full home office setup.
